Issue

The following steps will reproduce this issue and cause Flash to crash:
- Open Flex Builder and select Windows > Preferences.
- On the left side of the Preferences window, select General > Editors > File Associations.
- Under File types, select .fla
- In the Associated Editor section, select the Add button.
- Select the External Programs option.
- Use the scroll bar to select Flash as the associated program.
- Select OK and exit Preferences.
- Right-click on a .fla file in the Navigator window and select Open.
- This will launch Flash but will not open the .fla file.
- Select File > Exit and Flash will crash.
Solution
Use the Browse option to designate the .fla association in Flex.
- In Flex Builder, select Windows > Preferences.
- Select General > Editors > File Associations.
- Under File types, select .fla
- In the Associated Editor section select the Add button.
- Select the External Programs option.
- Select the Browse button.
- Navigate to the Flash executable file.
- Select OK and exit Preferences.
- Notice that the .fla icons in Flex lose their Flash icons.
- Right-click on a .fla file in the Navigator window and select Open.
- The .fla file will now open in Flash. Flash will not crash when exiting the program.
