Madagascar 2 Poster

Crate Escape"Madagascar 2"
- In "Madagascar 2: The Crate Escape," all the loveable characters are back -- Alex the lion, Marty the zebra, Melman the giraffe and Gloria the hippo, King Julien, Maurice and the penguins. Left marooned on the distant shores of Madagascar, the New Yorkers have hatched a plan so crazy it just might work. With military precision, the penguins have repaired an old crashed plane - sort of. Once aloft, this unlikely crew stays airborne just long enough to make it to the wildest place of all - the vast plains of Africa itself -- where our zoo-raised crew encounters species of their own kind for the very first time. While discovering their roots, they quickly realize the differences between the concrete jungle and the heart of Africa. Despite long-lost relatives, romantic rivals and scheming hunters, Africa seems like a "crack-a-lackin" great place...but is it better than their Central Park home? And, as you know, especially if you sat through the first "Madagascar" with your kids, Alex is voiced by Ben Stiller.

The original "Madagascar" was released in theaters in 2005.

"Meet The Spartans"
- "Meet the Spartans" is a comedy spoof written and directed by Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer - those guys who brought you the box office bomb "Epic Movie." (How and why, other than the film stars a bunch of has-beens and no-ones, and cost next to nothing to make, we know not why it was given the green light by 20th Century Fox.) What movies does "Meet The Spartans" spoof? Well, for starters, "300." "Meet The Spartans" also pokes fun at "Pirates Of The Caribbean," "Superman Returns," "Troy," "Alexander," "Stomp The Yard" and "The Sixth Sense."

"The Ruins"
- In the movie "The Ruins," six twenty-something friends on vacation in Cancun go on an excursion to visit an archaeological dig near Coba. The friends include Jeff (Jonathan Tucker), a type A guy who is set to begin medical school in the fall; Amy, Jeff's girlfriend, who is also set to begin medical school, and who is smart and emotional; Stacy, Amy's best friend, an aspiring social worker whose nickname is "Spacy" and who is irresponsible and promiscuous; Eric, Stacy's boyfriend, who is immature, and set to become a high school teacher; a fun-loving Greek guy who everyone calls "Pablo," but who lacks a common language with any of the others; and Mathias, an intense, thoughtful German tourist. Mathias' brother, Henrich, vanished shortly before the Americans and Greeks met Mathias--he met a beautiful Dutch archaeologist and decided to meet her at her dig, leaving a hastily drawn map for Mathias to follow in case he wanted to join him. The five others decide to accompany Mathias in his search for his brother, and take a bus to Coba for the day. Things immediately start to go wrong, as the group isn't well prepared for the heat and insects, and the journey becomes creepy. The poorly drawn map leads them to a Mayan village, where the grievously poor inhabitants appear hostile to the foreigners. Further searching leads them to an almost-hidden trail that they follow to the ruins.

Jonathan Tucker
Gun, rifle, and bow-and-arrow wielding Mayan villagers force them to climb onto a large hill covered in vines and red flowers, and block their path off the mountain. The situation turns increasingly disturbing as they find Henrich's corpse, covered in the vine and flowers. Further investigation uncovers numerous other corpses covered in the plant, and the plant, it turns out, secretes an acidic sap that burns them all. Under the hill is a mine, and a ringing cell phone at the bottom lures Pablo, but the rope breaks and he falls, sustaining a broken back. Eric is injured slightly trying to rescue him. Gradually, the group discovers that the vine is sentient and carnivorous. It begins luring them to their deaths, one by one. It can mimic perfectly the voices of others, and uses this ability to separate the others, who are suffering from hunger and thirst. A drunk Amy is the first to go, strangled by the plant while Jeff, angry at her, ignores her struggles, which he mistakes for drunken sickness. Pablo's legs are eaten by the plant, and Jeff and Henrich then amputate them. The plant enters Eric's wound and, though they remove it, Eric insists it's still inside him, and he repeately cuts himself in an effort to get it out. Jeff is able to hold the group together to a certain extent, always with new ideas about how to conquer their challenges. But he is ultimately killed by the villagers' arrows while trying to sneak past them. Airheaded Stacy leaves Pablo unattended, and the plant kills and eats him. Eric flays himself alive trying to remove the plant, and then kills Mathias with his knife in a delusional accident. With only Eric and Stacy left, Eric begs her to kill him and put him out of his misery, which she ultimately does. Then, she decides to leave her dead body as a warning for others, and slashes her wrists on the path at the base of the hill. But the plant moves her away, just as it did other warning signs put up by other victims. The Mayans leave. Three days later, Pablo's Greek friends, with a few Brazilians, climb onto the hill ("The Ruins") to seek out their traveling companion, bringing several others with them.

Indiana Jones 4 Movie Poster

Steven Spielberg, whom Wild About Movies interviewed two summers ago, before the release of his version of "War of the Worlds," just began shooting the fourth, and presumably final, installment of "Indiana Jones," starring Harrison Ford. "Indiana Jones 4" will hit theaters on Memorial Day 2008, nearly twenty years after "Indiana Jones 3," "Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade" was released. Frank Darabont's script, which had been one of the earlier drafts of "Indiana Jones 4," was not chosen as the final draft. Forty-four year old David Koepp, who wrote the screenplay of Spielberg's "War of the Worlds," and first "Jurassic Park," turned in the final "Indiana Jones 4" screenplay, based on a story by Jeff Nathanson, who has previously written "Rush Hour 2" and the upcoming "Rush Hour 3." Stay tuned to Wild About Movies for "Indiana Jones 4" updates, and of course, interviews with Spielberg, Harrison Ford, and the rest of the "Indiana Jones 4" cast, closer to the film's release date - "Indiana Jones 4."

"Definitely Maybe"
- Ryan Reynolds, (not to be confused with Ryan Gosling), stars as Will Hayes, a 30-something Manhattan dad in the midst of a divorce when his 10 year-old daughter, Maya (Abigail Breslin), starts to question him about his life before marriage. Maya wants to know absolutely everything about how her parents met and fell in love. Will's story begins in 1992, as a young, starry-eyed aspiring politician who moves to New York from Wisconsin in order to work on the Clinton campaign. For Maya, Will relives his past as an idealistic young man learning the ins and outs of big city politics, and recounts the history of his romantic relationships with three very different women.

Will hopelessly attempts a "PG" version of his story for his daughter and changes the names so Maya has to guess who is the woman her father finally married. Is her mother Will's college sweetheart, the dependable girl next-door Emily (Elizabeth Banks)? Is she his longtime best friend and confidante, the apolitical April (Isla Fisher)? Or is she the free-spirited but ambitious journalist Summer (Rachel Weisz)?

As Maya puts together the pieces of her dad's romantic puzzle, she begins to understand that love is not so simple or easy. And as Will tells her his tale, Maya helps him to understand that it's definitely never too late to go back...and maybe even possible to find a happy ending.

"The Happening"
- In M Night Shyamalan's "The Happening" Mark Wahlberg plays a man who takes his family on the run when the world turns upside and a cataclysmic natural crisis threatens to end the world. As usual, with M Night Shyamalan films, details are scarce. You'll have to wait to see "The Happening" in an actual movie theater, Friday The 13th of June 2008 to find out exactly what it's all about.

We all hope that "The Happening" will be a million times better than Shyamalan's last film, the stinker, "Lady In The Water."

20th Century Fox, also, is hoping that "The Happening" happens to be a monsterous hit at the box office. Warner Bros, who released Shyamalan's "Lady In The Water," threw him and his script for "The Happening" out to the curb.
